Hello,

Our car has a bit of play in the steering and it wanders on the road. Driving it in straight line is a bit of a challenge. I am curious to know if this is due to the steering box, the suspension or a combination of both. Is there anybody experienced with this model who can provide advice or somebody who has had a similar problem with their W126?

If the steering box needs to be overhauled, what items will need to be replaced? Which other items in the steering system may need to be replaced?

Thanks in advance to those who reply.

I have a 87 420 sel which had play in the steering and I had the steering box adjusted when I had my wheel alignment done and that took out a lot of the play. Also, when was the last time that you had front suspension work done on the car? Various factors can contribute to the situation you're experiencing. Also, check the air pressure in your tires when they are cold like first thing in the morning. Sometimes tire pressure can cause wandering.
