Thw W126 is hands down the best. Just take a look. Of all the S-class bodies manufactured, it had the longest production run, W105 1956-1959 (3 yrs), W111 1959-1968 (9 yrs), W108/109 1965-1973 (8 yrs) W116 1972-1980 (8 yrs) W126 1979-1994 (15 yrs), W140, 1991-1999 (8 yrs), and W220 1998-2005 (7 yrs). The W126 looks so elegant, both classy and modern at the same time. For DIY'ers, it's probably the last of the easier MB cars to work on. The various engines available for it from the factory, from the small gas 2.6L, to the "klattering" 3.5L diesel, and the mighty 5.6L V-8s. The W126 is truly a masterpiece. The W140 and W220s look nice, but the W126 is the one in my heart.
My 220 doesn't excite me. Does everything well, just pretty vanilla. Never driven a 140, but they are growing on me. Absolutely LOVE the 126!
I realized that lots of owners in this forum prefer W126 over W140.

However, I like W140 better than W126. As soon as my cash flow runs smoothly, I will try to get W140. I just like way it looks. A deep Charisma! (like German Tank).

And W140 looked really goon in the movie “Peacemaker.

It does not mean that I am gonna throw W126 away. I will keep W126 also.

In terms of W220, I cannot agree anymore that it is another great vehicle. But I cannot feel any charisma or that certain feeling Mercedes-Benz used to have.

So, my vote for W140![:D]
For me it has to be the W126. Hands down. They’re elegant, classic, and reliable. Simply put the greatest S-class ever produced. And the SEC is one of the best Mercedes of all time, imo.

My dad owns a W140. It’s a nice car. I especially like the interior. But it’s such a bulky and cumbersome vehicle. My favourite of the W140 range is the coupes. I think they’re stunning.

I have a love-hate relationship with the W220. I find myself at times drooling over it's styling, then I notice the plastics and I’m immediately put off by it. It was however such a brave departure from the W140. It shot the S-class back to the pinnacle of motoring excellence when it was released in 98/99.

Excuse my ignorance, but was "Peacemaker" the movie where a black W140 is stolen, driven through a fence, and in one scene, is slammed into reverse, wide open, and almost hits a woman? Or am I thinking of another movie?

W126 for reliability, looks, class and safety. I like how these cars can be considered personal limousines. I pull up to one of those Lincoln things or those Excursion monstrosities at a light, I'll respond exactly the opposite the makers had intended people to react to those vehicles - by ignoring it while everyone's hanging out the window waving and screaming at you.

Besides, it's the last true S-class without Chrysler input.

I do like W140's looks and back-end, but I would never buy one.

Nope, the movie “Peacemaker features George Clooney and Nicole Kidman.
They were driving silver W140 (embassy car) in the middle of Vienna, Austria.
They were pursing back and forth old bimmers owned by Russian (?) Mafia.

Unfortunately, a car blown up at the end of chasing scene.
Peacemaker and the 140 in it was great!

George Clooney just trashes about a 1/2 dozen BMW's while driving an armored 140 which finally starts on fire and explodes. Great movie!
ok this is the way i see this cars
W126-will be and ever will be the best and the last of S-CLASS
W140-will be the car benz wish they never make
W220-will be the car that make you love toyota more
bad news for benz
the best are getting worst while the worst are getting better
I really like the options and feel of the w140, but i absolutely HATE the styling. I'll take the w220 or w126 over the w140 anyday. also, w220 and w140 are almost impossible to DIY, whereas you need only basic hand tools for 90% of the jobs on the w126.

once again, the w140 reminds me of a giant fridge.
