So I gave MB a call today to get a service manual. Guess what? They have been discontinued and are considered "obsolete". Whats up with that? Yet you can still get manuals for older models. Just doesnt make any sense to me. Anyway the nice woman on the phone is transferring my concerns about them not having the manual to some higher ups to try and resolve the issue. I just cant believe they think they would be obsolete. Maybe somebody at MB will be able to help me out.

Yes, they have been unavailable from MBUSA for about two years now.

They are available from Jono at Blue Ridge MB (jhodge5ck) or if you know of someone with a set they may 'lend' you a backup copy for 'evaluation'.

Surely they are available through the Classic Centre?

I found an original 2 CD set on ebay late last year. They will pop up from time to time and generally go for $75-100.

Is there a way to install the contents on a hard drive? It is a minor irritation to have to load them into the DVD/ROM drive every time you want to reference.

I created a directory named w126cd1 and copied the contents of cd1 into that with the directory structure intact. Same for w126cd2 with cd2. To start the program I open this file: w126CD2\program\matrix.htm

The Steve Nervig (search this site - the link is somewhere) index not only improves the manuals usability but describes how to load it to your HD.

The how to, and Steve Nervig's free index to install the CD's with are in the DIY on top.

I have downloaded Steve Nervig's program and copied files from the MB service manual, but nothing opens. He mentioned IE has issues with links, so I downloaded Firefox, but same issues. Arrrg.

You need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader. The latest version of the reader is 9.0. Also, you need the Shockwave player web browser plugin if you're not using the index. Most of the files are portable document format(.pdf).

That is a true shame, yet they still have manuals on the market for the disposable Hyundai Excel!!!!

A little tip, sometimes during the download the program might appear to have stopped.
Don't do anything, it is still running until the download is completed.

Thanks to everyone for advise.... it was actually user error. I was trying to open Steve's program from a zipped file. After properly installing the "W126" file it runs flawlessly on Firefox browser.
