Just got a new car, and i love it. Its a 560SEL with only 125.000km (77k miles) on it. The grill is faded though, and i wonder if i'm going to buy an avantgarde grill, or just paint the original grill. I think the original grill painted looks very good. But i've never seen one with an avantgarde, and i kinda feel it will look wired, but i don't know. What do you guys think?

Personally I have yet to see an aftermarket grille that looks as good as the original, but the avantgarde comes the closest . I'd paint it body color or get one from a junkyard. Google w126 avantgarde grill and some images will come up.

I just painted mine with matte black from Krylon for plastic. I used Mothers mag and aluminum polish on the shinny parts. It turned out fantastic. Took 25 minutes including the taping.

mirusiek,

Can you kneel down at the front center of your car and take one additional picture from three meters or so? It does indeed look very nice.

Thanks,

Stick to the originals and DON'T paint it with any color other than the original shade of gray.

Thanks, That sure is pretty.
I assume that it came in the black but if not that was a wise color choice.

I too did that color too on my '91 Arctic White 420SEL when I refinished my old OEM grill but will slowly look around for a new one as my 21 year old fiberglass is starting to deteriorate to a small degree.

Dunno if this will help you or not. But i painted my grill the other day with just some standard trim paint along with my wipers. Turned out pretty damn good imo

Can I add "sexy" into your description.

Nothing like a pretty lady in a black dress!

Very nice front-side you have there.

The original waffle style looks great, the little vertical components of the grille stand out and give it a nice, elegant touch. Regarding grille paint, the original color is a medium gray, and looks great too without that "look at me" all over the front of the W126 (sedan) that comes with a modified grille.

The coupes look better with the black grille fins, but the sedan looks better with the original grille. The

The avantgarde grille looks good if only the fins were not shiny, IMO.

The original color grille looks exceptionally well on any color other than black.

Even on dark colored W126's, it looks good in original form:

If the W126 was black, a black grille insert would look the part.
