Hey guys,

A set has come for sale in midnight blue, which matches my car, and was wondering what people's opinions on the kit was.

My car is a Gen II, and I don't particularly care for the side skirts in the Gen I kit, or the 'striped' side panels, so I was thinking of only installing the front skirt, and maybe the rear skirt if I were to purchase the set.

Does the lip hang too low or look awkward without the rest of the kit? I can't visualize it too great in my head.

Most egregious of you regarding your opinions,

ahh you lucky bastard! I need a gen 1 midnight blue body kit! The only reason I haven't bought one is because I don't want to have to re-paint one, and I'm cheap as hell. I think if you had both front and rear without the skirts it might look a little awkward from the sides... but I feel like I've seen ones with just the front and they've looked good. It's all a matter of opinion. maybe you could have a helper or 2 hold them in place while you stand back and take a pic or look at it yourself.

If you end up not using the entire kit I might take whatever bits you don't use. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Mm its all down to personal taste. But for me i would rather no kit than just front/rear. I always think it looks odd without the full set.

Definitely down to taste, but I figured who better to ask about aero kits than you guys? I think you're right about no kit than front and rear, but what about just the front? Still awkward?

Buy the whole kit, put the front and rear on your car, sell off the gen I side skirts then take that money and buy reproduction gen II side skirts from one of the many body kit companies. Such as these: Amazon.com: 1981-1991 Mercedes SE/SEC/SEL W126 AMG Style Sideskirts: Automotive

The stock side panels (ribbed gen I vs. smooth Gen II) don't have any bearing on the AMG pieces. The side skirts go on below the side panels.

The new after market kit pieces are much more work than the used genuine AMG parts so expect to pay some labor getting the reproduction gen II skirts installed.

That sounds like a good plan... I know the panels aren't exclusive to the skirts, but I felt like the look of the Gen I skirt wouldn't flow right with a Gen II smooth panel... Just have to find a spare set of panels to paint blue, as this way I can take it off in the winter and just switch it back and forth all the time, save for the side skirts, right?

Ah, now I get it and I agree with you. I like the smooth panels with the bigger , flat and smooth gen II skirts also.

in some of the pics of amg's on 1000sel.com it looks like the skirt and stationary parts of the cladding are all one piece. They look soo much better than regular side skirts imo, not that those look bad. Is that just some great body work or do they make panels like that?

actually I just looked again, might not have been amg, what I'm talking about is how some look like they go up into the wheel wells.

The set I'm interested in has dog ears, and this pictured car has the Gen II cladding with Gen I side skirts... it actually doesn't look bad at all...

That pic looks to be a mix 'n match. Gen2 car with gen2 front spoiler and gen1 side and rear spoilers.

Looks awesome though!
Yup, exactly what it is! I prefer the dog ears, looks more 'complete' in my opinion. I was mostly worried about the Gen I side skirts on a Gen II car, and they seem to work pretty well from the looks of it!

I do prefer the dogears myself. I think it is such a distinct and unique design. Can't think of any other manufacturer that had anything even close to it.

As far as I know it is only available for the gen1 bumper.

The Gen I side skirts were used on a number of Gen II examples particularly during the transitional period.

Don't buy these side skirts. They will not fit without major modifications. I have a set in my garage purchased in a hurry before I knew what I was doing.
I have a full set of GEN II side cladding in Anthracite. Near perfect condition including the stainless inserts. I also have an original set of GEN I side skirts. AMG.
