My local indie is working on a project for another customer. I believe it is a euro GenI SEC and the fuel tank is rusted out. Does anyone know if the fuel tanks are specific for SEC or will any w126 fuel tank fit? Thanks in advance for your help. Mike

Does anyone have a spare fuel tank for sale?

Thank you very much. Now to find one at the JY that hasn't had holes poked in it.

I have a 1989 420SEL parts car. It was running but had a ratty body and interior. It still has the fuel tank in it.

But I am located in Tampa and I am guessing shipping would be pretty high. In any case, PM me and we can talk.

@magicbigdaddy - Is the fuel tank really rusted out (i.e. holes in the tank) or is it just a crusty mess?

The reason I ask is because I have personally restored four fuel tanks using POR15 fuel tank restoration kits. They do a marvelous job if one will just follow the instructions.

Obviously, that's not going to work on a tank with holes, but given the limited availability of fuel tanks for 30+ year-old cars, it's a good option if the tank's not rusted through.

Make sure the rear window seal is not cracked. Not entirely sure on the W126 if that can cause water to enter the support enclosure for the fuel tank. It defintely caused a XJS Jaguar to get a rusted out fuel tank. Try calling around all the junk yards. I lucked out and got a tank out for $125 once. Sometimes tanks from different year models can be used with adapter hoses. It worked with a Jag. Not sure what the story is with W126's.
