I saw an ad today on Craigslist for 1993 400E.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 400 400E white 120000 miles

The ad has photos that show "AMG" on the trunk. I never heard of an AMG version of that car so i assumed it was an affectation, something added to the trunk lid by a previous owner. But then i noticed that the steering wheel is partly wood. the center and the central grip areas look stock, but the upper and lower parts of the outer rim are a beautiful wood. the shifter knob has similar wood, and there is a chrome ring around the shifter plate on the console.

Has anyone ever seen this configuraiton before? Was there an "AMG" version of the 400E?

the wheels are very different from stock, but there are many sources for those -- I cannot read if there is any logo on the wheels.
the car looks nice but i am curious about those non-stock details and what else might be in the packages, if anything.

99% likely that its a stock 400e with some minor aesthetic tweaks. looks like chrome exhaust tips too.

That`s not AMG.The only 400e and e420 AMGs is the S1 S2 &S3 versions and were only in Japan.

Later I saw another 1995 400E advertised, with the same steering wheel, so I think it might have been a feature of that year or maybe for a special edition at the end of the model run.
Also, if you want such a steering wheel, I also saw them in the Performance Products catalog.

1) in 1995, it was an E420, not a 400E

2) Owning one, I assure you that was not the stock wheel.
