So I have had Archie for a few weeks now. A friend decided to buy a car for his fiancé, so I decided to strech his legs and see what he could do.

The Pick up point was 60 miles away and in total we did nearer 200miles. Archie performed seamlessly. Granted he was a little slow on the up hill and pull away was measured in minutes and not seconds but he did great.

Picking up the trailer. It was surprisingly hard to locate one for hire in the UK. this was 30 miles from where I lived. Pleased to say all the electrics worked great.

Loading on the 2002. 1971 with 2 former owners. 86,000 miles with full service history up to 75,000. Been in a garage for the last year. Came with 2 new doors and requires new inner and outer sills and brakes overhaul. All in all a solid car.

Making sure the old girl is secure for the trip

I love this shot. Old skool German towing even older skool German.

Bit scary to look in your mirror and see this bearing down on you. Then I remembered it was on a trailer. :)

Finally got it home to my friends house.

So there it goes. All in all it took us 8hours door to door. The car is currently having the welding done. I will update with photo's when it is finished.

Thanks for looking.

Yes! I love to see those W123's hard at work. How was the towing? Was it literally foot to the floor the entire time or did it have considerable power to make it?

Also, what kind of W123? I was unable to see the badge!

1983 240D. It was okay on the flats, fine on the freeway, cruising nicely at 60mph, but struggled a little on the hills. was down to 40mph at times. Overall though it did fine. Averaged 30mpg(imperial uk gallons) throughout the whole 200 mile journey. This was mostly freeway but also some traffic. Brakes were fine and temp gauge did not move even uphill. All in all a surprising (albeit a pleasant one) day.

My old 240D impressed me before too- I towed another 240D up a 1/4mi long steep hill and I thought the car wasn't going to make it when it started to slow down but it got down to 10mph and kept chugging along all the way to the top, what a trooper ;)
