Hi All,

I have a W108 chassis 280SE Mercedes in right-hand drive. Someone attempted to steal it with a hammer and a screwdriver and ruined the timber veneer dash. It needs to be replaced.

What are the best options for replacement? Is there new old stock available?

Some internet searches have found some replacement options but they all seem to be in polished walnut etc, where my model did not have that option and instead has a more humble timber option.

I would like to go like-for-like.

Any help and feedback on any of the options out there is very much appreciated.

Best

You can buy a worn out one here and send out to be re-veneered/refinished.

For about the same cost you could upgrade to zebrano:

again a good woodwork shop might be able to repair your damaged one.

"Is there new old stock available? " - you made me laugh.

The W108 280 SEL 4.5 (U.S. only) has wood around the back windows, which you don’t need. So avoid replacement wood for that specific model.

I had the wood on my ‘72 W108 280 SEL 4.5 replaced with zebra wood; it’s really sharp.

It just occurred to me that in the U.S. your homeowner's insurance extends to anything in the interior of the vehicle being stolen. If your auto insurance does not cover the damage, your homeowner's might. Not sure if it will cover damage from an attempted theft.
