I have a new 2001 E55 with voice recognition. I find it awkward to use. Anyone use that option regularly. How do you find it.

I don't know how I lived without it Bob ...

-------
I use it everyday, all day. I love it.
What do you find akward about it? I know it took me a few weeks to get used to it, but if I had any problems or questions, I just pulled the stalk, waited for the beep, and said "help". Whether I was in 'Phone', 'CD', 'Radio', or 'Cassette', the sweet voice of Betty Benz (that's my nickname for her) would run down the possible commands for that specific feature.
If you have any questions Bob, just ask me. I'll try to help.
BTW: are you the same Bob who was looking for an E55 at MSRP on this board a few weeks ago?
Drew.
Congrats Bob!

Bob,
Like Drew, I don't know how i have lived without this wonderful feature. It is so convenient as I can access almost anything through my voice. My hands never have to leave the steering wheel. Sometimes however, if you dont speak loudly or clearly enough, the command may not go through. Other than that, this option has worked like a charm!
If you have any questions, I too will try m y best to help.
Oh yeah, Congrats on your new E55! Welcome to the club!
Happy Motoring!
Ryan
OK, at the risk of sounding terribly uninformed...

Thanks.
Not standard: only with the K2a package

Re: E55 at msrp

-------
Congrats again Bob.
Ask me any questions you want (screw being embarassed, this is what we are all here for ... to help each other!).
You know I love the Voice Activation ("VA") set up, but its just as easy to reach over with your left hand and depress the keypad to activate the accessory you want to use. However, the VA is not just a cool thing to show your friends, but truly an effective safety option: you can keep your hands on the wheel, and your eyes on the road (for the most part)while using it. I prefer the VA over looking at my cell phone every other second to find the number I'm looking for ... with the VA, I just toggle through the numbers I have stored in my Timeport's phonebook using the steering wheel controls or use the VA to dial the number (I have stored my most often-used numbers there: Home, Office, Wife at work, Girlfriend in the penthouse condo I bought for her last year ... only kidding).
I've been using mine since I took delivery just before Christmas 2000, 4000 miles ago, and haven't learned all the tricks yet.
Read the VA/Timport manual. Then read it again (I still read it). Fool around with it for a day or so, and if you still have questions, just ask.
Good luck.
Drew.

Arggh! I hate you guys!

I had the bright idea of being one of the first people to get the E55 ('99) and now there are so many new options that I have no access to! ARGH!
No Parktronic
No Vented seats
No Timeport/VA
No COMMAND
I should have waited!
Ok all you guys who are in the So. Cal. area, I gotta see your cars at our Meet on on March 17th. I want to know how much I've been missing out.

I can only hate myself ..

I waited, and still didn't get Parktronic, COMAND, nor Ventillated Seats (so all I can talk about is the VA option). My next 'Benz will be loaded to the brim with every mechanical option MB has!
PHILGUY: WHAT ABOUT YOUR LIGHTS? DID YOU LOOK AT THE OTHER POST ... yet?
