After some help please, I've just got a 1999 108cdi van and its really slow, only does 65mph and that takes ages.
I know they aren't power machines but should do more than that?
So far I've done
Air and fuel filter changed
Injector cleaner run through
All vacuum lines operating turbo as they should
No fault codes - on Star machine
Turbo boosting
Fuel rail pressure good
Waste gate checked and closing fully
No leaks from turbo pipework
No misfires and runs smoothly
No injector issues - from Star diagnostics
No major smoking

Anything I'm missing?

Also today tried with complete exhaust off - no change
Removed EGR and cleaned - also checked operation on vacuum on vehicle and it's fine.
Noticed there is a lot of sooty build up in the inlet manifold from the egr.
Could it need an old fashioned decoke?
Thanks in advance for help

does it accelerate from static and then slow up?

or is it very slow from first moving?

get somebody outside and check what THEY see from the exhaust.... nothing, white smoke, blue/grey smoke, black smoke.... try this under gentle pull-off and flooring it from pull off.

It is a manual

Seems to drive ok around town speeds, though does need a lot of revving.
It loses speed quickly on hills
And will only just get to about 65 in 4th, 5 kills it.

Smoke is bluey/black - probably more blue than black.

No noticeable difference fast or slow pull away

Thanks

Hi Andy,

Please see my thread 'small issue after some welding'. I had exactly the same thing happen to mine. There are plenty of threads on faulty brake and clutch switches pulling it back into limp mode. 3k when starting and in neutral is all about not damaging the motor by revving the nuts off it unecessarily, when the engine is under no load. Mine did exactly the same on the motorway, wouldnt rev past 3k and there was definitely no turbo running although around town it was ok.
Anyway trawl through the threads on diagnosis as there are alot of others who have gone through the same issue and I expect one of us has had exactly the same thing you're going through at this time.
Although mine has recovered almost by itself, I must have done something when checking all the vacuum tubing and filters. Good luck.

Cheers,

David

If it's going into limp mode and not reving over 3000rpm this gets reset when you turn of the ignition. So when you start up Again the fault is gone. it will return suddenly when you begin driving. Your tester will have to read stored codes to show up. (probably P1470) Check the vacuum hoses, even something as simple as the vacum hose not attached to the headlamps will cause this. I had a problem with the vacuum under the car near the turbo.

It's not in limp mode as it revs over 3000rpm
I have plumbed in a turbo boost gauge and turbo is boosting to about 15psi and seems to be going on/off boost perfectly with throttle position / load etc.
There is still no fault codes recorded.
Is it worth stripping out the injectors to get them checked for performance or can I get them checked in place - I have read injector removal on these engines can be a nightmare
