anywhere from '52 300 to 1990 560SEL,and a '93300TE nothing newer, too much trouble....

It appears the "623"'s were a very limited production. Only 1100 or so were made. I imagine the low numbers produced were the result of Ma Benz using up the existing supply of M130 engines already on the shelf. I've never seen a '73 or later model using the M130 but then again, I've never seen a Narwhal and I know those exist.
How much of this is actual fact, assumption or fiction ?
I have never heard of a 114 623 in 40 years of collecting fixing and dealing with
Mercedes-Benzes.

I promised the owner I wouldn't put his whole serial number
If you would put the complete plate of/on the second photo, everything would probably be clear.
From the position on the (option-) plate I am thinking that this is the order number of this car.
By an unbelievable coincidence it almost corresponds to the first 6 digits of the VIN.
It may be a factory internal designation (that I however have never seen or heard of before).
WHAT MATTERS are the stamp and the VIN plate in the 3rd photo match up.
The (painted) plate is an option plate and was only for factory purposes.

This site list a 250 C 2.8 M130 but no the chassis number.

wiki show a
W114.6731973–1976280C
so at least we know the "6" series exists.

I did stumble across this in the EPC. It looks to me that 114 023 and 114 623 identical?? As to what that means?? Your guess is as good as mine. I would like to see the entire 114 023 number. It could be a part
number? That can be searched.

Thanks for your response 6punk. I wanted to put the whole vin but the owner asked me not to. He is a nice guy so I wanted to respect his demand
