Hello Guys

We purchased a W111 220Seb(Coupe) from a deceased estate a few months ago and are struggling to find a vin number anywhere!
We have just had the car stripped and resprayed and all the usual places have no numbers anywhere! There are no papers but the engine number is 127 982 2004 8038??
Is there anywhere one can cross reference to get the original Vin?

I assume somwhere in her history she was stolen and never replated?

Please advise anyone?

MB has the engine numbers and VIN numbers on file, so you have to contact the MB Classic Centre in Stuttgart. If the engine wasn't changed, they should be able to find the VIN number.

The plates could also have rusted off. Other possibility is that the car was involved in an accident and the bar above the radiator was changed. Stolen is also possible.

You will find the chassis number, not a VIN which came out in 1981, stamped on the frame rail under the intake manifold. There is also a plate screwed onto the radiator support that has the chassis number stamped on it.

Since you report a '20' in position 7 and 8, you have a right hand drive manual transmission car.

In the pic, you will see the number just under the intake venturi.
