You need to convert the US VIN.

Copy your VIN to Word. Delete everything between the B and the A. Put a 1 in front of the A. Insert your car’s chassis code between the B and the 1. In my case a 300 SE: 126024. Or a 500 SEL: 126037, and so on. Copy and paste the converted VIN to the decoder. Once converted the ID will work.

It will be on the body tag located on the upper rad support.

300CE Coupe

The W124051 chassis 300CE Coupe with the M104-980 motor was made between 1990 and 1993.

Why would you need to look up the build of your car when it is in your log book. I wouldnt send this information to people randomly.

thats what you should have done. then you put a 1 in fron of the a

then in those other blanks you put your chassis code which can be found by just searching on google

"1985 500SEL chassis code" and combinations of, and I can't find where it will give me the length of code I'm looking to put in those BLANKS....

Can someone direct me to a site?

It would be nice if it worked on my car. My VIN has a 'B' where most have an 'A.' If I force an A in that spot, I do get a report, but all it tells me is the car was made in Germany. Duh.

The US VIN checker site listed in this thread calls my model type "unknown." Oh, well...

Your chassis code is 126037 – the same as mine…
