I'm thinking of buying the used 2006 C280 with 77,000 miles. I'd like to know if the engine is one of the problem childs. Thanks for any help!

WDBRF92HX6F783720 has M272 engine #266780 which is within the affected range for a defective balance shaft.

Thanks for checking. Do you think it's worth buying if I can pick it up for wholesale price? I know the history of the car & it has been maintained correctly. I do have an set up at my local Mercedes dealer where I get a break on parts & labor. Or should I stay clear?

Personally, I'd stay clear. Even the best maintenance can't prevent the problem. It's going to fail early, just how early is unknown. When it does fail, it's a $4K+ job that requires pulling the engine. The parts are not too bad, I think around $400. It's the labor that's the killer.
