actually these things really smooth out over 80-90 MPH. driving 100 MPH is fairly easy with one hand. I don't know many other cars that drive quite as nice over 100MPH. Smooth as glass. Maybe a few select porsche's, Lambos, and astin martins. But most mercedes even old ones, really shine and love speeds over 90.

it maybe smooth as I know, but id rather have 2 hands on the wheel if I had to react to something especially on 2 lane roads in the country.

A good way to do it might be to tape the GPS next to the speedo and then wear the camera around your neck on a strap, either that or wedge the camera in with the headrest between the seat and the base of the headrest to film.

I'm not too crazy. Smooth road with no intersections or traffic, no animals around bigger than a rabbit, and a very small camera held between two fingers. I tossed the towel up to hopefully keep the gps in place but that was moot point. I saw the camera on the desk and had to gas up so I thought I'd try to grab a quick video. I'll do a better planned shoot one of these days. If it makes you feel any better, I do about 145 with one hand several times a day at work :). The car is extremely stable at speed and it really is a non event to drive.

As it was, I got the gps back from the console and you should see 60mph after I adjusted it. You can catch a glimpse of a 101 about time :38 after launching at time :13 then I coasted it back down before the curve.

I would hate to hear about you wrecking for a video like that, if next time have a friend film you and GPS in the passenger seat.

Those temps are a bit hot..also, those shifts could be crisper...Might try giving your mod another turn.

I didn't time how long it took to 100, do you know?

That aside, sounds good and hitting 100 is Quite easy in these cars...Love it:)

OK, Volunteer #1 here.

But really, I've ridden shotgun in that car and I think AA has followed my edict "don't do anything I wouldn't do", so no complaints.

I didn't know I was doing 100+ on the 405 until the California Highway Patrol told me so be careful, dude...traffic school in Orange County is a painful experience, don't ask me how I know.

I seriously thought about buying one of those Passat W8 cars with a 6 speed manual when they first came out. Then, several years later, I read a number of horror stories about various electronic problems with these vehicles, in particular, the instrument clusters repeatedly failing. After warranty expiration, this would make it one expensive money pit, as these parts were ridiculously expensive.

The car was obviously a flop, as they quit making it only after a few years.

Yeah. "THEY" are always right.. It was well known that it was only to be a 2002 to 2004 production run and most definitely a marketing flop. I put 75,000 miles on it in 3 years. The only problem was the thermostat at 37,000 miles. Electronic problems were not due to the W8 engine, but to typical VW/Audi electronics which were no different than a V6 Passat. I was a service advisor for VW, Audi and Benz. Wanna get me started on the electronic problems of any of those 3 in recent years ? LOL. Pick a model and I'll give you a list. ;)

It was an unmarked car that had the partylights on the dash...impossible to tell so don't feel too confident.

And oh yeah, don't play with mom's double Ds man, that's just not right!
