Was driving my truck yesterday and all of a sudden this weird sound started. Today I put it on jack stands and put the trans in drive and it was an intermittent sound that would go on for 10-15 seconds, then leave, then return maybe 3 minutes later , make the sound for 10 seconds or so and then stop again. Only did it in drive. The sound was like a drummer on a snare drum doing rim shots. clcik, click, pause, click click click, miss a couple then repeat. It sound like it is coming from somewhere near the transfer case. I recorded it, but will have to edit it to make the file small enough to post. Any guesses in the mean time?
Thanks in Advance

I use audacity. It's free to use. Works great.

Could have a stretched chain in your transfer case.
Accelerate out of a hard corner and see if it makes the noise.
