Hello all, back again with a new issue. Just recently, I got into my car and fired it up. It vibrated noticeabally for a minute or so while in "park". It finally settled down a bit, but was not as smooth as I am used too. When I put it in reverse, it intensified a little more. Then I put in in "drive", and it did it for a sec, then settled down. I feel the vibrations more at RPM changes (stop and go). My first guess was motor mounts. I have read that that is a common problem on these cars (2001 E55).I have never had a problem with them in the past, so I figured it's probabally time. I just hit 91K on the Benz. I drove with my hand on the shift lever to see if i could feel any movement. I definately felt the shift lever moving under acceleration. (it moved forward?)It also moved from side-to-side under hard cornering. If it were a dampner or balancer, this wouldn't happen right? It's not throwing any codes or anything and the car runs and starts fine. I just replaced the alternator recently, so I've been enjoying my car alot lately if you know what I mean? It's been running fanatstically. Also, I've started driving it with the traction control turned "off" because it just seems quicker. Does the tracton control allow the car to be "torquier?" It seems logical that the motor mounts or tranny mounts could break as the car feels alot more "brutal" with the traction control off? Any feedback or advice would be appreciated. It's not really a horrible vibration that renders the car "undriveable". It's just obvious and it's got me concerned. I can feel it in the footwell. Kind of like if you were leaning on a large industrial transformer. It's got almost an "electrical" kind of "hum" at times? Thanks

OK, ive done the "visual test" of the motor. Put it in park, engaged the park brake, and popped the hood. had my girlfriend run through the gears revving it periodically. No signs of significant engine movement? the airbox had a wicked "humming-like" vibration? It's hard to describe. like an orbital sander in terms of oscillation and speed. Just more pronounced. I removed the airbox and cleaned everything. The filters looked brand new (i put them in last year).
Still have the vibration? It settles down as the car runs for awhile. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It's not hindering the performance or driveability of the car. But it's something that wasnt there before. It usually idles super smooth. The RPM's don't fluctuate, so maybe I should'nt use the term "idle"?

I would replace motor mounts..

The motor mounts in the W210 E55 (like other W210 models) are "fluid filled" (actually not a lot of fluid in volume) and it is common for the OE mounts to deflate over time. I

The normal diagnosis of worn motor mounts is a vibration when shifting into Drive, or when shifting into reverse. Left unadressed, this torsional vibration can lead to other problems, including thrasing out spak plug wires and coils.

Please note there are "knockoff" non-OE motor mount replacements out there that look OK, but fail within a year, so make sure you get the correct OE motor mounts either from your dealer or a reutable sounce (like oft mentioned autohausaz.com). Avoid ebay low pirced knockoof's from such sources as Deutsche Parts in NY.

There is also one tranny mount, however I jave nver replaced that polyurethane unit, it's pretty rugged.

Keep the beat !

I have the same issue with my e320 w211. There is like a buzzing sound on start up. Also when I brake slowly I hear it start up then stop. There is an SBC brake pump i know that is supposed to run occasionally but i hear this buzz all the time. Feels like the car is pulling a tractor too. I just had motor mounts and tranny mounts replaced and it's still the same?
