I just had both Vario Roof Drive Flap Gear Housing replaced on my 05 SL under warranty. There is a DTB (Daimler Technical Bulletin) for the original housing. They flex and cause the flap to sag and as seen in the attached photos will eventually cause the flap to drop and the roof will not open or close correctly. The DTB number is seen on attached photos. Part number is 230-750-01-11. Mine was rattling when driving on a rough road. I'd recommend having them changed if you see any indication of sagging as seen in the first photo. Be safe...

Just purchased a CPOed 06SLK with 40K miles on it..I had already noticed the left side flap a bit lose, well, in 3 months, the spring snapped - I could hear it..

Stealer wants $370 to replace just the left side assembly & spring (parts in $70, labor is $300)...I didn't quite understand why it would cost so much just to replace the flap.

The flap is fine as such, the spring that has snapped is a mere $8...I am going to try and replace the spring myself...

I think, that should do it..
