Feedback on this is mixed, many users have tried to open their valves as a preventive maintenance, and ended up paying $1700 to replace what was a working block.

This is not a maintenance job warranted by Mercedes, nor the block is designed to be rebuilt, thus, opening the unit and disturbing the seals should be reserved, only as a last resort, for when the valve actually has a problem, at that point, its worth giving it a shot with rebuilding, when your other choice is to chill out the big bucks...

Head gasket is a reasonable repair job, but NOBODY changes their head gasket "just in case" or because the car reached certain mile marker...

This is a "if it's not broken, dont fix it..." type of deal...

Yeah if that's the case, and flush/rodio did not fix it, then your last thing worth a shot is cleaning the goo inside the block, before replacing it...

This is an unconfirmed list of seals...

Here is an option.. scrap the whole valve block and install a used one.

I ordered all of the O-rings (sizes posted a few years ago by a user who was able to rebuild his properly)

Followed all of the steps.. incredibly clean workbench with no dirt, didn't scratch or damage anything, replaced all O-rings successfully (they were much tighter when reinstalled).

Was just as bad when I installed the 'rebuilt' one, and slowly got worse over the next 2 months. Mine used to sink after 2-3 days (was OK overnight) but by the end of two months it was sinking overnight.

Went out and bought one on eBay for $485 shipped. My car is a 2003 and I think I bought one off a low mileage 2005 or 2006. Has been flawless ever since.

My car came with original ABC oil.. 11+ years old and completely black. I flushed it but the valve block wasn't any better. I'm sure the lack of ABC flushes is what killed it.

Now I have a 2005/2006 valve block that went onto a clean ABC system. I now flush every 2 years. This valve block isn't much newer than my original one, but since it has only ever had clean fluid through it, I suspect it will last forever.

Not worth the time and hassle to remove, disassemble, and reinstall. From the time I got the new one, I had it installed and the system topped up within less than an hour. It was totally worth the money I spent.

People have had success with the rebuild so I'm not sure why mine didn't work. I thought rebuilding was a 100% guaranteed fix and that's why I rebuilt first. Now knowing what I know, I wouldn't do it again.

Update

My valve block repair was put on hold due to a battery /alternator malfunction. finally go that resolved (new Battery, Loose alt connection phew).

After a Rodeo, the valve block seems OK, has held up fine, time will tell. Report is the ABC oil was very dirty and was way overdue for a flush.
SO were all happy and smiles now.
