It is time to get a valve adjustment and I was curious to find out what it will cost about. The valve slapping is driving my a little crazy, and I need to get it fixed.

Another thing I need to due is adjust the idle speed. When my car gets warm the idle drops to about 500 RPM, which causes the motor to idle roughly. It should be from about 600-700 rpm.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I am currently getting one done on my 83 280sl - the shop I go to offers a spring "Shake out special" where all filter and fluid are changed, plugs are changed, timing is set, valve adjustment and timing chain check is performed, for $550. I don't know how much of that is the valve adjustment alone, but I will ask him for you.

Take it to an MB specialist to have the valve adjustment done, it will save you loads.

It is unusual and requires special spanners (wrenches) to do the job. It's not hard, but to someone who doesn't know the engine, it will take along time to figure out if at all and you will end up paying.

The idle can be adjusted easily with a screw driver.

I'm definitely not going to screw around with the valve adjustment, I have a good mechanic who can do it though.
