I understand that when a new AAM is purchased for a 1998-1999 ML that a programming / coding key has to be purchased as well . After programing is completed by the dealership the programing / coding key becomes the valet key.

Here is my question.... when purchasing the programming / coding key can it be purchased with a blank key blade then taken to a locksmith that has the correct machine to cut the blade to fit the existing ignition switch, then the programing / coding key taken to the dealership with the new cut blade for the existing ignition switch and used to program the new AAM after the AAM is installed ?

Thanks

Short answer: no.

Long answer: As previously explained, both key and DAS/AAM module are TRPs (Theft-Relevant Parts) that can only be delivered/installed at an authorized MB dealer. "Delivered" means given to you after being programmed in your vehicle and tested for proper function.

If you can't make it there yourself, you may send an agent with a letter signed by you and a notary public. That's the only way to stop your soon-to-be-ex wife from stealing your Benz.
