Does anyone know if the check valves in the two vacuum pump rebuild kits, the one for pre 80 and 80-85, are the same ? I ask because I need the a check valve for the oil drain tube and the vacuum kit the later MB's has is alot more then the earlier MB's kit.

Hoping to find someone that's rebuilt both an early and late model pump and knows if there's a difference or not.

P/n's are:

The part number you've posted for "early" gives hits on google as a VW part. (Not a Mercedes number missing one digit) I have been informed that the VW pumps shared parts with the early Pierburg / Mercedes pumps.

There are no change over parts for the later piston Mercedes pumps 'cos VW gave up with the idea of rubber diaphragms and pistons and went down the screw thread route (sorry the technical term for the later VW pumps escapes me for the minute)

Anyway - to answer your question I'm like 95% sure those check valves are the same in the piston pump. The expensive part in the piston pump kit seems to be the copper coated PTFE ring on the piston.

I'm still looking (with one eye shut) for a replacement part for the piston PTFE ring.

Thanks, stretch. The picture on the autohuas website isn't the best and its hard to tell if they are the same.

I'm in need of a check valve for the drain tube and they only seem to be available as part of the two vacuum pump kits.

I'd hate to spend $100 for the later kit and only need the check valve, with my luck I'd end up needing a whole vacuum kit one day and would be missing 1 check valve. The earlier kit comes with 2 valves, o rings, and the seal and screws for the cover for about $11. Its simple math when it comes to the price of the kits.

Self service junk yards are they only way to go on something like this.

Find an early vacuum pump, pop it off and grab all three valves out of it. Leave the rest of the pump.

Should take 10 minutes and cost no more than a few bucks.

If He is going to go to the Junk Yard He might as well simply remove the small Oil Pan and remove the real Crankcase Breather Drain Valve. That way He would be entirely sure it would be the right size.
