Hi folks.
Anyone know where this blue vacuum line on my 87 560SL goes as it descends into the nether reaches of the abyss? I can't see down there to see to connect it to where it might go.
Any help most appreciated
Cal

The manual has diagrams which identify colors but they don't show location- they only specify what , not where Once you know what then you may find where.

If the abyss you describe is the black hole backwards towards the throttle body you will have a little fun as there are nipples inside on my 380. Not sure on the 560 though. You may need long nose surgical pliers.

Hi Aussiemerc
Actually it's the the part of the vacuum line that descends downward between the engine and wheel.
It looks like it hangs down near the air pump or alternator. Any guesses?

Well that's good because everything in that area is accessible. Not sure where things are on a 560 but on mine there is a vacuum valve ( small square gismo) somewhere underneath the overflow tank probably next to the inner fender. Just a guess. I can't see a blue line anywhere that side on mine but it's RHD so lots of things are in different places and it's 4 years older and a different motor. Have you located a vacuum diagram?
I think there's one somewhere in the sticky section.(EGV 107)

Checked my '86. Line is a different color, blue? and grey. I would need a mirror to see where it goes. It disappears. Is yours disconnected?

I think I just replaced this line. It was coming from my vacuum advance and went underneath the engine. Had to jack up the car and fight with it, as the oil filter was in the way. Very irritating to replace. I can't even explain where it went because I kept losing place of where the dang thing went!

In the end, it got replaced. Your 560 is undoubtedly different, but get ready to do a lot more gearing up to replace a vacuum line than you may have anticipated

Hey you guys thanks so much for your help. I think I'm going to have to get the car on a lift to ferret this thing out. I will remove the overflow tank to see where the connected end fits into the connection block, or what ever is there. When I resolve this I will place the solution on the thread.

And now the rest of the story.......
Got it on a lift and found the attachment place near the oil filter. It required two long handled bent needle nose pliers and the dexterity of a brain surgeon to attach to the U shaped rubber connector. Will get a more secure fit at oil change time.
Thanks again for all the help

I removed the oil filter between oil changes before. If you are careful you lose very little oil.
