Hello everyone.

I have an 86 Euro 300 SE. It has the electric vacuum pump beneath the spare tire in the trunk. The vacuum line has snapped, as though perhaps it was chewed through by a rodent. There is about a 1 inch gap from one end to the other. Can I just connect them using a new piece of vacuum line or do I need to replace the entire line. (Which I don't know exactly how to do.)

Thanks for any advice

Yes, above is correct. You can get a section of black hose type line and that should work. Then your door locks should work again.

and, if the line does not need to withstand heat (which the vacuum for the doors does not) then you can use a piece of flyscreen spline - the stuff that holds the nylon flyscreen into the door/window frame of your house.

I don't know if that would be thick enough Ross. If that's like the stuff here, that is pretty thin walled. I would get some from an auto parts store. The thicker stuff.

Unless you got some big ass flys there?

the stuff we have is perfect for joining two pieces of vac line together - it has a hollow core which slips over the two ends of the vac line, it has the added advantage of being very flexible, but no use for where there is heat...

The line is probably being held tight by a tie down the line. There is play in the line so you should be able to pull out more. The line runs from that hole where you have the short lead to the under side of the metal end of the trunk bottom. From the right well just reach up on the left of the well. (Hope that makes sense?) From there you can grab the line and pull a little slack out of it and be on your way. If you pull out the right well lining you will see that the line runs up to a connector that splits it off to the trunk, gas lid and doors.
