I really like the E class cabrio but dont want the M104 engine (not powerful enough and cyl head/harness issues).

The obvious solution seems to be to transplant a V8 into one.

Would there me any major issues or restrictions on being able to do this? I am assuming the E cabrio has the same basic chassis as the Saloon which does have the V8 or am i wrong.

Anyone done this ?

The 400E has same basic chassis, but 500E`s not, they have a modified one!

So i think if you put a V8 into the Cabrio, you have to modify a lot, from Engine Fix points to susspensions , Brakes etc...

Also, you have to put the Battery into the Trunk, i think!?

I bet its a Hell of a Job, but if you do this, you got a Unique Car!!

Good Luck!

BTW: I have saw a Coupe with a 4.2L V8, he got all part´s from R129 SL!

The founder of the mbcoupes.com website, Satish, is putting a 5.0 M119 from a 500SL into a W124 E320 coupe right now. There are pictures on the site where the forum is.

I went to the site, but can't find photos or forum section. Very interested, as we are planning a 4.2 (119) transplant ourselves. Help me get there.
Thanks,

Correction, W124 with M119 engine uses same chassis in either 400 or 500E forms. The difference is that the 500 uses different coil springs, firmer dampners, larger anti-roll bar and self leveling rear suspension. The brakes are the same as they are borrowed from the R129 500SL. Both magnificent motorcars. There was modification to the driveline tunnel in 124's with V8's so I think the swap will be more involved than anticipated. Does your 500 have a speed governor of 250 K.M.H. even though it is a German market car? And more importantly, have you run it at full song?

Have you thought about trying to get a twin turbo conversion for a 3.2 instead of a V8 . You do see some twin turbo coupes in right hand drive in the UK still.

I have a 3606cc engine ( M104 272bhp ) in my W124 which is the same one as the C36. Whilst it is not quite as quick off the mark as a E500 it is close .

Yes, its limited to 250 Km/h, yeah, no problem, to run out! I have a no speed limited "Autobahn" right in front of my Home!! Its more like a Test Track!
