I am looking to start a new project.
Is there anyone who has done a similiar conversion, I am thinking of using a m119 4.2l v8 from s420 and putting it into the w201 chassi

I am looking for some advice on this
anyone with info that can help ?

Its a pretty serious operation. You will need to fabricate a new chassis crossmember with one from a V8 car, an updated radiator support (depending on which model you start with), and you will have to do some fairly serious metal work to the body near the rear of the engine bay to get the clearance you need. The transmission is a whole other issue.

Someone in the UK put a 5.0 M119 into a 190e, I think it was a year in the making or so.

Other than that...I don't know of any M119's in a 190e. It doesn't exactly fit.

That sounds like fun... :D
hmm

how about the transmission... I dont want to have auto, and its really hard to find a manual box for an m119.

what Gbox you reckon would be good?
and what things will need to be done?

also I dont have the 190e yet, what modell would be best... considering all the components to upgrade, brakes suspension etc.

would also really appreciated if you could dig up info on that 5L 190e.

Thanks heaps Jack

There isn't a manual available for an M119.

You'd be looking at machining a new bell housing, perhaps an adapter plate, new flywheel etc. You'd have to adapt a 190e 5 Speec (2.3-16 or 2.6L Sourced), which is a major undertaking. They aren't even close to fitting.

Start with a 2.6L car. They have a removable radiator support.

The engine wiring is another story, an M119 has some pretty complex electronics, thats a helluva task on its own.

Its a pretty serious undertaking. Unless you have serious fabrication & engineering experience, its really not something I would recommend at all. There are much easier swaps out there with just as much power (C36 AMG nearly bolts right in to a 2.6L).

There isn't much out there on the 5.0 190e in the UK. I'll see what I can find.

hmm, i want to see just how much benefit i get out of putting a v8 compared to straight six. and cost wise? ill obviously be spending alot of money on chassi modification.

performance wise v8 has more torque and hp, it should be a shorter block (length and hieght) but heavier than the straight six.

Would the cars balance be better with v8 or straight 6? (thinking design wise)

what would be handy, is the weights of the engines. but i really couldnt find much on them.

so you recon straight six wise it would be easier and cost less because of less fabrication, but lower power and torque. amg engines in NZ is costly :/ and rare. I would have to opt for a m104 3L... which is roughly 215hp
compared to the m119 4.2L 279ps
or 5L 322ps quoted by wiki. (depending on actual size of the engine)

Interesting

Old thread but interesting...

Since I'm parting out a 93 400E (front driver side collision)
and the engine/tranny/drive line is still good
I'd like to find a dirt cheap smaller car and fit it

I know any conversion to a larger engine does pose challenges
with mounts and tranny tunnel, ECU, fuel delivery, etc...
so I wonder if anyone has successfully mounted a M119
into a smaller chassis model???

Did you notice that the so called conversion went nowhere? There is a reason for such a phenomena...

Thus my inquiry of a successful completion.
I suppose I could get many replies suggesting otherwise,
that's not what I was looking for. :D

Maybe I should do something ground breaking and be the first.

There are a few conversion done on this planet. They can be counted with upper limbs digits of a single human. You could try to break in to toes territory

I dont know if you already did this project yet but umm how about going with a straight 6 and adding a turbo that would give you what your looking for, far as Horse Power !
M104.980 motor 3.0L that comes in a 300CE has 228hp @ 6,300rpm/201torque @ 4,600rpm
M104.992 motor 3.2L that comes in a E320 has 217hp @ 5,500rpm/229torque @ 3,750rpm
you add a Turbo to any one of them motors and it would be a Rocket !
and you should be over 300hp !
(well that's what i want to do to my 190e)

Yes many take the turbo or supercharger route to the original six
than trying to tackle a very involved V8 conversion

I think it's more common with BMWs
that I've seen the M60/62 V8 conversion done to E30 (325i) models

Not a bad upgrade since a 4.0 liter is pushing over 280HP stock
Had fun with my 93 740iL (5 speed w/4 speed sport mode)

But yes everything seems turbo or "boost" related now days

In fact I've been thinking of adding a supercharger to my V6 4.0 Ranger

Funny you mentioned that
I think someone on the forum is selling a 190E with a 5.0 Mustang engine in it :D

Ahh, that 190E 5.0 is awesome!

Probably is one hell of a sleeper.
