I have recently replaced the blower motor on my V230. The new blower is working, but only on maximum speed ( switch position 4 ) It doesnt work at all on positions 1, 2 & 3. I have been advised that one possible cause is the ballast resistor / rectifier unit.

This is the 3rd blower motor I have fitted to this car, The original one was made by 'Valeo' as were the two replacements. Both previous blower motors have burned out and have blown the 35A fuse under the passenger seat. The last time it happened, the two-pin connector on the end of the blower cable pigtail melted, in addition to blowing the fuse.

My local MB parts dept advised that the blower motor fitted to this car as original equipment would have been a Bosch unit and that these are far superior in quality to the Valeo units. Any thoughts on this ?

Can anyone advise where the ballast resistor is located and also how to access it to replace it ?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
