There is a small aux jack located in the glove box. This is to connect a mp3 player. Mercedes also offered a ipod interface unit which lets you select songs with the steering wheel buttons. It's very awkward, but it works well. If you have the ipod interface the aux jack does not work as they both use the same connection on the main unit inside the dashboard.

What's worked well for me is an ipod->bluetooth audio adapter.

Then I stream via bluetooth. Not the same as playing MP3s straight, but it's a total clean install, no wires, nothing to connect physically.

My 2008, there was no factory option to play MP3s from USB. I heard the 2009 model had better options, but I don't know much more than hearsay.

I too use a bluetooth audio adapter. The one I have is small and light and has a rechargeable battery in it that lasts a reasonably long time, plus I can charge it in my ash tray with the low profile usb power adapter and still close the cover.

The one I use is Amazon.com: GOgroove BlueGate Bluetooth Adapter Wireless Receiver with A2DP Technology for Home Stereo , Portable Speakers , Headphones , Car Music Sound Systems , & More 3.5mm Media Devices: MP3 Players & Accessories

Plus this works along with the bluetooth phone connection via the bluetooth puck such that I still have my phone controls via comand and the steering wheel.
