Is anyone familiar with the lock on the E430 glove box. I lost my key and need access. The dealer said that its $40 for a replacement but I need to show proof of ownership. :bash: My proof of ownership is in the glove box...

I might get a lock pick set and try my luck, I honesty don't want to tear anything up.

If you want another blade key I would explain to the dealer that your proof of ownership is in the glove box. I'm almost positive a tech can get it open without destroying the lock. I don't trust my own ability to pick a lock, but maybe yours is better.

Not to be goofy, but you don't have any of your plastic keys with the metal key still inside? The metal key stows inside the plastic unit.

You can get duplicate registration from DMV over the counter. Why do you keep pink slip in GC?
Now would be good time to order 2nd key for the car.
I just order new chrome key and the charge for blade was in teens. Will have to check it later.

I only received one key when I purchased the car. The central locking isnt working so ive been locking the car the last few weeks with the key. I bought the car a few months ago and it had a bad engine. I put a new motor in it and now am going through the process of working out all the bugs. Central locking is on the top of the list but I have been locking the car with the key in the mean time. Loosing it isnt helping lol

Didnt really plan on having important papers in there long just a few days. Locked them in there one day just for peace of mind. I guess at least I know they are safe lol

We are required by law to always have the state registration (and proof of insurance) somewhere in the car. But the actual title is in my safe deposit box. Either one should be sufficient to prove ownership.

Ask DMV if they can give you a copy of the registration, it should not be expensive.
