I took my car to one of those quick lube places for an oil change. I know...spare the lecture. Anyways, the car now smells strong of oil and it's visible all over the top of the valve cover. It's extremely wet around the cap. I checked the dipstick and the oil is to the top of the orange plastic piece. It's too full and I'm draining some out tomorrow. They claim that I had oil leaks when I brought it in, but there were no signs of oil leaks before. Now it leaks on the driveway and smells of oil. I think that's BS and they are trying to cover themselves.

My question is - where can the oil be coming from? Can overfilling cause the oil to leak at the cap? This seems to be the only conceivable place that it has been leaking, unless their is an overflow which I can't find anything of on the internet. I've only drove it 10 miles, so I find it hard to believe that it has leaked that much from overfilling. It's on top of the valve cover and alternator and running all the way down the passenger side of the engine (only at the front). Like I said this all points to the cap.

Thanks in advance
Brandon

when they removed the oil filler cap, the gasket may have come off (it's hard to believe the gasket just falling off, but it's possible). Can you take couple of pictures and post here? It's difficult to diagnose without seeing...
