Good evening guys, wondering about my Unimog that I have only had round the yard since I got it. Problem is I can only select 4 forward gears. It's either 1,2,3,4 or 1,2,5,6. Any ideas why this is happening and how to rectify it? Cheers guys, Adam

We really need to know more about your Unimog to help you. Model number? pictures of the mog? Can you take a picture of the gear shift levers?

Can you shift to reverse in those gears?

Hi there, don't have any pictures right now. It's and om352. Six speed. Not a cascade box. Old fashioned pull lever for the air lockers. Single lever for forwards and reverse and the PTO lever. Currently it goes into 1st & 2nd in forward and reverse. The other two just go forwards which I think it correct. It's not being able to find the two missing gears, is there a special way to find the last two? I'll get some pictures as and when I can. But this is the set up I have attached, with the PTO lever on mine. Thanks

If I remember correctly once the shift lever is moved into the 1-2 gate there (can be) a blocker engaged that stops access to the 5-6 gate until 3rd has been selected once. Perhaps removing the shift assembly and inspecting the mechanism would be a reasonable undertaking.

Are you able to shift into reverse? If not, you are probably stuck on the right side of the shift gate. Sometimes it takes a good whack to cross over to gears 1 & 2.
Can happily get into reverse in 1st and 2nd. I can shift it over into 1st/2nd. And back over. I just can't seem to get 2 of the 6 gears and can't figure out if it is 5th/6th or 3rd/4th.

Mercedes make things fun. I may try that sequence. I can't seem to think why they aren't working as it's a low hours 3500hrs.

Adam, you have the plain-Jane 6 speed. As you described, or I interpreted, you are getting 1-2 just fine then across the 'gate' and find 3 and 5 only. No 4 and 6 which shift to the rear. I had that happen once. At the top of the shifter assembly is that long tube that runs front and back inside which the shifting mechanism works, sliding front to back. At the rear of that horizontal housing is a small cap maybe 2 x 2 with 3 bolts holding it on. Take that off, clean it out, and pack with grease. Try shifting with the cover off. Let us know if that works. BTW, be sure the frame around the rubber shifter cover is not in the way of anything!

I've taken the shifter linkage apart. It seems that the initial pin that bolts on to the bottom of the actual shifter lever is worn. It's not allowing the lever to fully push 5th and 6th into gear. I'm contemplating cleaning it up taking a few measurements and putting some weld on it. Then finishing it back to something that works a bit better. Or does anyone know how much these hens teeth parts would cost or where to even begin to finding one?? Ta much as always.
