I brought 2 U1200's home from Maine in Dec. They were ex plow trucks for Coombe county NY. I was able to hear one of them run before the purchase, but couldn't drive it because the clutch was out, physically out, as well as the driveshaft.
I had the flywheel and pressure plate resurfaced as well as the disk relined. I was surprised how nice they turned out, and how inexpensive it was. $249!

I found a bad U-joint on the driveshaft between the bellhousing and the gearbox, so I dropped it off at Portland driveline. They couldn't find me a replacement u-joint, so I got one from Jim Ince. He actually had one in stock.
The u-joint alone was more than the whole clutch.

It all went in today, charged the battery, mind you this truck has been sitting for a while. I pumped the fuel plunger a couple of times, hand throttle, ignition, no click. Clutch pedal to the floor, ignition, and she starts first crank!

All the lights for the shift gates working, I grab 1st, forward selector, parking brake makes the air hiss, clutch pedal out, and I'm rolling! quick tap of the brakes, another air hiss, and it stops!
Only brave enough for 100 feet of travel today.

Woohoo! I am so stoked right now.

Yes, there is a safety switch at the end of the pedal travel. These 2 U1200's were built in 94. The clutch slave is also an internal donut style. Here's the best part, 18,600 km.

Here's the running truck #1 getting transfered off the flatbed.

Borrowed a friends 406 to pull them up my driveway. This is #2, she has a hole in the block. Only 16,300km

My XM-47's being hauled in my Doka.

Yes it's a Jagdwagen Syncro. Special hunter's model made by VW. This is one of the press vehicles that they made to show off what you could order.
It has every option available in 89 for on of these.

I took my steering shaft out of the U1200 today to replace the swivel ball on the cab floor. Is there a part of this that is supposed slip in and out? Specifically the portion that attaches to the steering box?
There's a rubber bellows type boot on it, but it don't slide.
