Murphy visited on Saturday. I put in a new trim piece around fuse box, replaced (in their bracket recepticles) 2 dangling relays, pulled old remote control wires out of door.......and "while I was there" replaced all the fuses (well my son in law did it as I can't twist and bend as is needed for that job). Went back to the original job - final adjustment of window ( block fell off), turned the key and...............not a tinkle- no lights- nothing.....Everything was fine on Friday.

I suppose as a starter I should take out all the fuses, scratch ends with 2000 grit, apply elect lube and replace?

The battery is still showing 6v so at least it should have ticked.

I hope Murphy hasn't hit the ignition switch.

Ps OT I learned something new at golf on Saturday as well-- don't EVER try and hit a ball out of a lake polluted with duck poo. The ball came out but my new name is Aussiemerk- I was covered in black mud.

I think the voltage is too low, top off the battery and check again. KISS

Those fuses can be difficult to get seated correctly also..

Batteries are supposed to have 13+ Volts, and when the go down to 12 V and don't maintain 13 they are often considered dead (but are still nice to have around the garage for testing things).

6 v ??? Damn that's low! Was that a typo?

At rest, a typical battery will show 12.5V.

Most older cars will start at 9V+ but new cars are a little more finicky. The OBCs prefer 12+V.

Thanks guys. No- Fonzi, not a typo so it may be dead. I have it charging. The battery is less than a year old so I may be able to get a freebie even though its a while since I drove it.
Yes Rowdie, the wires were anti theft and remote locking but I removed the guts of it ages ago (kept going off without warning) and the last wires were just those inside the door. Also, I've been adjusting both windows (new weatherseals)....(up/down/up/down for some time) and I unintentionally left the ignition on for 8 or 9 mins in the process.
I think repair dimentia is setting in . Now, what was I doing?

KISS is always better.

I asked about the alarm because my 500SL had one. None stock relays connected to jumbled wiring in a couple of places. I am not touching them because everything works. (Not the alarm) Afraid it may have a start disable or something so I am leaving well enough alone.

I confess I had a sparkie do it (electric connections) for that very reason. He left the stuff in the door for some reason and I found the key always stiff (no longer) but it was easy to remove with everything out.

I still have a couple of small unidentified relays that I'm afraid to touch although I can see they aren't MB.Could have been a phone.

When I first bought The PIG I was posting pics and identifying numbers of all the weird stuff and getting opinions before removing.

Some of the stuff was obvious but some stuff....?

Now behind the CC panel....well that is a rats nest of aftermarket connectors. When they installed the A/C (since removed) they let a barrel of monkeys in behind the dash to make it "work". I have left it alone because the fan and heat works. That's all I need.

I know what you mean Nobby. When I took the dash out I must have removed 10 metres of unconnected unknown wiring etc. In the engine I found a complete plug lead buried down below. The old f'wit factor.
