I noticed that my trunk lid is about 3/16 higher on one side than the other. It is just enough to notice in the trim lines of the vehicle. Is there any way to adjust this out? I see a way to adjust the lid forward or back, but this is like needing to make it close tighter.

You can unbolt the trunk latch and adjust the height up and down. They're hidden behind a plastic flap.

Please explain. you mean take out the push button part of the latch? I have done that and dont remember seeing anything within there. If you can be more specific I would appreciate it.

Not the push button (trunk lock cylinder), there is a small metal piece with a square opening in it bolted to the car body where the trunk lock snaps into it.
This metal piece is attached to the body with (2) 8 or 10 mm bolts hidden behind a small plastic trim that flaps out.

I could never figure out why my trunk lid was high in the corner near the fuel tank fill.
Then one day while filling the car up with the trunk open, I slammed it shut with the gas cap laying in that crevace near the fill.
My trunk issues were self inflicted!

the trunk lid hinges are adjustable they pivot on e-centriic nuts. follow the hinge back and where the hinge bolts to the car you should be able to get a wrench in there and adjust it until it lowers to the right height.

This scenario is what i suspect has happened to mine. It is higher on the fuel door side than the other side. Can I correct it?

yes you can. with the trunk open from the back facing the front of the car, put palm on the corner of the trunk by the hinge on the outside (on the body) and put other on the inside back corner by the 2.3/2.6/WE emblem is there and pull the bottom toward you and push the top outward. give it a bit of force and it should line back up. ive done it to my 87 when i accidently slammed it with my phone there. it was like it never happened.
