Trunk doesn't close sometimes

I've been through quite a few pages of the threads and haven't found anyone with intermittent trunk closing problems for the 2000 S500. I can hear the actuator moving but not repositioning in the right place to close the trunk. It looks as if the latch that moves have hyper extended itself to the point the plastic housing is actually ripped.
Is anyone having this problem or have any idea how to solve mine?
Again its not all the time, it's hit or miss when the trunk mal functions.

Make sure the little rubber stops a screwed in far enough that they are not preventing the trunk form getting in the right position.

I understand your response and thank you for it however, I don't believe it's the stops. You can physically see the latching mechanism is in the wrong position to accept the male part.
Any other suggestions?
