Hello people, I'm sitting here at my workplace with a bit of a problem.

My car, a 1994 C220 is making a horrendous noise when I hit the gas.

The noise can be heard here: Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!

It's pretty ear-splitting (which I figure equals Damaging) and it happens at about 1200-1300 RPM getting louder as the RPM's increase; essentially a soon as I have put pressure on the accelerator the noise starts up!

Any ideas what is? I don't want to drive it home if its going to do further damage or if there is something I can buy to fix it before I go home.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

*Also, I just had a new serpentine belt with a tensioner (or pulley I forgot which) put on a few days ago. Could that have anything to do with it? The old one had broken of, but the new one seemed to be fine prior to this morning (when the noise became painfully apparent!).

Yes it could, I hope whoever did the job replaced both the pulley and tensioner. If the tensioner becomes stiff and was pulled to the lower position it may be sticking in a lower tension causing belt looseness.
The pulley and tensioner should be replaced together. The mini-shock condition should be checked as well.
Metafly mentioned that he bought some serp. belts that did not match well with the v-teeth. Check the alignment of the belt on the pulleys.
Other things to check any wobble especially for the water pump (I just replaced mine) B
