Hi everyone. This summer while rebuilding my rear suspension, I tried to tackle the transmission mount and ran into a stubborn tab at the top of the mount. I couldn’t get any spanner on it to loosen it. I’ll try again this spring / summer, but does anyone know how I can access this properly? 1993 300e 2.8 automatic. See pic for the tab in question.

If you look at number 10 in the photo you can see that the nut fits down in between. It’s not a round washer. It has raised sides which prevents me from turning the nut. Can I bend of those out-of-the-way?

You will get in there with the right size of ring spanner, a small bit at a time.
It went in so it must come out.

Been a long time, but, as I recall, boyd w is correct. I used a 12 point box end wrench ("closed spanner" over there) for tiny turns until the nut rose high enough for the wrench to make it past the bent clip.
Alternately, drop the cross-member with a jack (and piece of wood to protect the pan) under the trans so you can lower it a bit to get on the nut easier.
You're probably still going to scratch heck out of the backside of your hand and knuckles.

Thank you for the encouragement. I pulled the crossmember and braced trans this summer but I’m thinking I just had the wrong tool. That, and I was exhausted after rebuilding the front/rear suspension. I have three parts yet to install on the driveline. Trans mount, center bearing, and front flex disc.

It's almost funny when you come back rested the next day and the thing that was so frustrating when you were tired is easy. Love the marathon work sessions, but have gotten to that "throw the tools down in disgust" one day, to come back rested and laugh at myself for being so stupid when tired.
Good luck. Hardest part for me is always getting the center bearing fully seated in the mount.
