It’s interesting that Timevalve pictures the tri-y pipes for 1986+ w126 but doesn’t offer them. They do offer downpipes for euro logs on 1980-85 models on their site too. Interesting.
Call them. Mike, the owner of Timevalve, built my set several years ago..... no problem. 1-800-243-1170

Someone posted a set of tri-y with down pipes for only $800, but I have committed to buy a set that may never show up. So I’m now just waiting in limbo for a package that stopped tracking over two months ago in Moscow. Many people have said it takes up to two months to get packages from Russia, but it’s pushing 2.5 now. I got my money back, but honor my word that if they show up, I will pay the seller for them. That puts me in limbo, not able to really justify the purchase of a second set until I’m totally off the hook for this set.

You would be able to flip the 2nd set in no time, so rather than holding out for a "what if", you have two assured outcomes.

I have received parts from Russia and it did not take 2 months once shipped. But easily 4-6 weeks from memory. It was years ago. If I were you I'd grab those tri-y's and downpipes for the 800 and work the rest out later. That price is unbeatable. ":Edit: Juts saw they are sold, not surprised. "

True. Now that the $800 option is gone, it’s clear what I should have done. :)

I often shell out money to follow through on my word, resulting in too much money shelled out for stuff I don’t need. Not buying the $800 was an act of restraint. I’d passed the info to my friend Bob because I assumed he could use them for his business in one way or another. Bob was coincidentally contacted by Stutz, and I believe Stutz got the awesome deal.

Tri-y are not a necessity. So if my Russian set never shows, it’s not the end of the world. It’s good to know I can get a nice new set of Timevalve downpipes if they do show up. Here’s what the manifolds are supposed to look like.

So it’s been quite a while since I made the purchase on those tri-y, and I asked the seller if they were RHD or LHD, and I’m confident he responded that they were LHD. But looking at that picture, they sure look like RHD. Now don’t they?

Here are some pictures on which I’ve written LF for left front, RR for right rear, etc. check out pics of the ones that recently went for $800 (multiple pics on workbench in packing material) vs the ones I paid $500+$100 for (single pic on brick patio).

I was just looking at your picture and must admit there was a piece that threw me off a little bit. It may be RHD or for r107 as I think there have a piece that looks like the one second from the bottom in your pic

In any case you have a refund and if they do show up you could always sell or perhaps return to the seller. Good thing you used PayPal

cheers

Maybe he meant that you drive with your left hand and the steering wheel is on the right.

I’m not sure there were ever tri-y for rhd 107 cars.

Looks like I dodged a bullet with the insane customs delay on these tri-y, and was very lucky PayPal sent me my money back. I need to double check that I was actually credited. I think the seller feels scammed, but...
  • they haven’t arrived
  • he said they were LHD (not RHD)
I guess I will request that if he can track down the package, to just see if the package can be recalled to him.

I guess I should have nabbed those $800 ones. Congrats to @Stutz

I scribbled on the images above in red with logical context based on where the output for each set is located. The front manifolds can’t have their outputs directly behind the back cylinder because there are more cylinders behind it. Any exhaust pipes always go towards the back of the car (not the front).

On each version, the left sides are paired next to each other (5+6 and 7+8) while on the right side they are every other (1+3 and 2+4).
... from the web:
The firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2

Since 1 (first) fires right after 2 (last), it would be a bad pair to have them matched up. Since the m116 didn’t have tri-y, it makes you wonder why this firing order was chosen. It does help explain why w108 4.5 have tri-y on the passenger side (right) and not the driver (left).

So with the 1+3, 2+4, 5+6, 7+8, every pair has at least two cylinders firing between the two paired cylinders. This is more complicated on a RHD car since the steering box is on the same side as the 1+2 that can’t be paired.

I will check again to see if there was a RHD 500sl, and if it got tri-y, but my gut tells me they didn’t get tri-y if they even made them.

Hopefully they show up and hopefully they are in fact LHD - these shapes of the headers make it a real head turner to try and make sense of the shapes in photos.. part numbers are the best way to know for sure

And for the record (and what’s now a misnamed thread) here is a picture of w108 4.5 exhaust manifolds:

Gentlemen,

I'm posting the part numbers for the R107 LHD Tri-Y exhaust manifolds + some EPC drawings for your perusal

Hoping this would help

Thanks @Chicky

With regards to at least LHD w126 tri-y, it’s clear that the dowpipes connect in very different locations than they do for the 107. With the 107, both pipes run side-by side the whole length. Here’s the Timevalve shot of the difference on the w126 left/driver side:
