don't think so...

not that I'm a transmission specialist, but from my experience this means a reasonable amount of repair. It was an occasional fault with the 123 series.

How and when did reverse go out? Did it start to "slip" and then go or did it just stop working? I am pretty sure there is a screw that has somehthing to do with the reverse on your car, on my car (115 Chassis - '76 240D). The trany started to slip and I went down to the shop - it was a screw on the bottom of the transmition pan that had come loose from vibration. I am not sure if the 123 Chassis has this but I would say that it is definately possible!

Re: How and when did reverse go out? Did it start to

The reverse was out when I got the car. I was told it had some thing to do with the bands that are in the transmision. I don't know if the band broke or Just not tight enough

No reverse

It is quite common on your gear box and usualy caused by one of the brake bands being snapped. It can be repaired but stripping the box is only a job for an expert.
Probably be cheaper to buy second hand or reconditioned box.[xx(]By the way, gear box is the U.K. term for transmission.
