Does anyone know if any of the later MB transmissions will swap out with the 3 sp AT that was used in the 1975 450SE? Also, does anyone have any experience with a source for "off-the-shelf" exhaust headers for the 117.983 engine. I have queried the sites for Borla and Ansa and they both come back negative. Thanks.

Swap in the 4 speed automatic that was in the 107 SL 's 0r 300SEL 3.5 109 chassis. At a pinch the 280SE 3.5 auto is also the same.Although the the W123 etc have a trans that will fit,it has smaller clutches and the valve body is "set' differently.
The only headers that come close are ford Mustang 5.0.there are dozens of different brands and shapes, but you have to cut the flanges off and turn the bolt pattern 90 degrees.the collectors need to be lengthened to drop the outlet down below the sump level.[;)]
