I have a crazy question about the shift of the 4 speed auto in my 420.

Oh come it seem like it always starts out in 2nd gear? I have to nearly put the gas pedal to the floor for it to start in first. Is this normal or is there an adjustment for this.

Also I had read somewhere in here that you can change your shift points. How do you manage to do that.

Thanks

I believe you would have found this mentioned in the FAQs suggested for your reading. Mercedes, for a variety of reasons, always have their automatic transmissions start off in 2nd gear. If you want to start off in 1st, then you need to manually shift the trans (while stopped) to B then click it right to S. This will start you off in 1st gear. Be aware that your revs will climb dramatically in 1st gear, so you'll need to shift into 2nd rather quickly.

There is a unit that Will make the trans start in first gear without having to romp on it. It's called FGS switch (first gear start) I have one in my 380SE and it comes with software to set your shift points. Ask our member Coupe I think he is still selling them.
