My SLK 350 has the 7 speed automatic. When cold there is a very harsh downshif when the car slows to about 10 mph. Anyone else experiencing it? I only have a couple thousand miles on it.

I find the same thing on my car especially when in sport mode. It is quite sharp changing up gear as well when cold

I have experienced this a couple of times. It seems to only happen down gearing to first at about 10MPH while in S mode.

Many cars experience harder shifting when cold. The oils not yet completely warmed up and rolled over all gears, and so on.

Of course, it's also important to drive with care for the first 5 minutes to let all bits and pieces warm up adequately, but I don't experience VERY harsh downshifting, just a slight nudge.

I think the ratio between 1st and 2nd and 3rd is quite pronounced, so when you do slow down, it can give a fair nudge.

The 350 is designed to hold 1st gear when cold to warm up the cat converter. That is "normal"
The thread is referring to down gearing, not up shifts.
