Hi all,

I have a 89 420 SEL and I have looked under the car and I have a leak from the transmisson. I can not figure out where it is coming from. Because it is getting Fluid on the heat sheild up towards the front of the transmission. I am going to do a filter changed and pan gasket change. But does the Dipstick tube have a gasket on it that could be bad and is that were the fluid leak could be coming from. Please give me a little hep on this.

Thanks GUYS

I had the exact same problem with my 420...

...the engine came out today. Pray that it isn't the input shaft seal.

On the other hand, if it is the shaft seal, and you just want to drive it, keep an eye on the fluid level and just keep topping it up. Think of it as automatic rust proofing.

Those engineers thought of everything.

The dipstick has an o-ring. best bet would be to clean off the transmission (wash it yourself places work well, along w/ about 4 2X4's to drive up on) drive around for a spot and then re-check.. If it's not coming out of the grill/bell housing it's likely not the front seal.
