Transmission Issues 300D

1301 Views 4 Replies 1 Participant Last post by Guest (MBNZ)
Bought a 82 300D Turbo not to long ago, great car. The transmission although has a few issues. First of all when the car is already warmed up and I shift from park to any gear it takes about 3 seconds to engage second it tends to slip out of 2 to 3rd gear (not accelerating that fast) and when I come to a stop it makes a clunk noise and jerks the car when it goes back to first. Im almost sure I need a rebuild, it has 300,000+ miles on it and never has had a rebuild, but I really dont have the money to shell out for major work. Any suggestions on cheap fixes that could be done. Ive heard of maybe putting a new vaccum system in and maybe putting new flex discs in. What do you guys think

Has the filter been changed? If it is all clogged up, that could be part of the prblem. The fluid is not circulating. The vacuum lines could be part of the problem as well. It is just about as easy to buy a low mileage used tranny as it is to rebuild one. A new one with a warranty can be bought at the dealer. They have been discounted since the mid 90's. Still will be 800-900 dollars.
Hey man.

I have a w123 coupe with 465,000 miles on it. The tranny was rebuilt 90,000 miles ago. I think that last weekend was the first tranny service since it was rebuilt. I had been meaning to do it for a while, but I was just too busy with school and all. Well, I changed the gasket, filter, and the fluid. I put in some valvoline with anti shudder protection. It made a world of a difference. Try that first. If that doesnt work, im not sure what to tell you.

I can get a spare tranny for you pretty easily if you have trouble.

See you later,

Austin
