Hi, I have a 1987 300E that has a rebuilt transmission. However, when i put the car in drive or reverse it jerks considerably. The transmission shifting while driving seems to be fine. Also occasionally when put in reverse it jerks signficantly and seems to want to back up a little bit faster than usual. Any ideas what this could be?

Hi Benzman2.

Check the rubber in the two mounts behind your differential. If worn, exchange them and the one above in front.

Flex disks is the rubber "doughnut rings", one between the transmission and propeller shaft, and the other between the propeller shaft and differential. If these are worn, it will give you the same symtoms. Exchanging all these parts will give improvements in smoothness anyway.

The quality of the ATF in the transmission also comes into the equation. Some oils give harder shifts than others.

The reverse thing doesen't ring a bell.

Regards

Geir
