I have decided to change my transmission fluid on my 02 E320 (45000 miles). I bought the fluid from Auto Parts Warehouse with $13.95/l. The fluid is listed as OES and comes in a nice original like bottle with the MB logo on it and all.
To my surprise, when I start opening the bottles, the seal on the bottle cap doesn’t break off as it should. On 5 out of 8 bottles the cap came off without breaking the cap seal ( that little ring that remains on the bottle when the cap is opened ).Did any of you experience such thing before? If you buy an ordinary bottle of motor oil, or a bottle of water ($0.5) the seal is broken when the cap is taken off. I am not making any assumptions, but it is odd for such an expensive fluid.... I am nervous about the quality of my fluid. I would appreciate your answers. I am sorry for my this non technical question. Thank you.

I've had that happen with all manner of such bottles where the security ring deforms and just comes off with the cap (very often with Mobil1). Personally I would be concerned only that it is the correct fluid and if so, pour it on in.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Greg,

Thank you for your quick answer. It never happen to me before on so many bottles. You would expect better quality from a Mercedes OE Supplier.
I used the newer stuff A001 989 68 03 10 ( or A001 989 45 03 13) aparently these 2 are the same. I hope I made the right choice.
Thank you again,
Catalin
