So....it finally happened. Driving home yesterday and started getting erratic shifting and jerking at 30-40 mph.

On the highway, transmission was stuck in 3rd gear. Limped home and had the car towed to dealer for diagnosis.

I'm told that it's the transmission conductor plate that needs to be replaced at a cost of $1170.00 for parts and labor.

Does this seem reasonable for that repair?
Also, it seems like the dealer is waiting to replace this part to see if there are other issues.

Am I going down a rabbit hole with the repairs on this issue? I don't want to replace the conductor plate to find out that I need other costly repairs too.

Not like I have a choice but to do the repair but is $1170.00 a good price for this?

Thanks in advance.

I assume that he will replace the control valve with it, if so, you're paying average.
I would raise hell with them, there is a wide spread problem with the 7 speeds due to faulty design by Siemens, they are being replaced in droves, they may help you with it.

Roadking999, I don't know if they will replace the control valve. I was having a busy day at work so I got the price and the problem and told them I'd call back.

I've read about the issues but mine's a 5 speed 4matic. Does that still apply?

How do I go about requesting good will assistance from MB? Is this something the dealer can initiate? or would I need to call MB directly?

I've only had the car for 4 months but I have the service records. Seems to have regular work done at MB dealers. I've had the transmission and transfer case fluids/filters changed at this dealer and was scheduled for brake fluid service next week.

Sorry, I didn't see the 4matic in your profile, what I said applies to the 7 speed.
I would still ask for assistance, as Jimbo said, talk to the service manager and ask him to request goodwill assistance from MB, tell him that you had the car properly maintained and that you're disappointed with this problem coming up right after the dealership serviced your transmission. Ask for him to look into what went wrong in the process.
The 5 speeds are very robust, conductor plate issues are rare, I'm inclined to think the cause of the problem might be related to the service performed by the dealer. I would start out soft and see their reaction, escalate as you see appropriate.
