I have a 78 240d. It has been sitting for 2 years. Now it won't shift into drive, and when it does on ocassion, it slips.(as if in neutral). Am i missing an adjustment? Is it time for a rebuild? Got any tricks?

It could just need a good cleaning. My Haynes shop manual (not a professional-grade manual) shows how to remove and clean out the valve body. I think that if this were not a common procedure, and relatively easy, they wouldn't include it. I haven't done this on a benz, but I have on other makes. You need plenty of time, so you're not rushed, and a large, clean work area.

Tranny Service is in need, alos the tranny is vacuum operated, and there is a an adjustment on the tranny. A small pin on the module is used for the adjstment (do not adjust more than a 1/4 at a time) traany service should be done first and check the vacum on the tranny,

Clint
Mercedesautoparts.com
