debating on buying this 95 mercedes sl320 the car run and drives fine but the owner says that the tranny leaks almost a quart every 3 days and that its the front tranny seal.

does anyone on here have a diy to fix this prb or the going rate at a indy shop to fix. im buying this car for a winter project

On my -91 500SL, there was a major leak in the front of the gearbox pan, and the final fix was to put on a new pan, because it was out of shape and not possible to clamp the gasket properly...
( be careful with the torque of the bolts, I think there only shal be approx 5-7 Nm )

That is one hell of a leak! :eek: Changing a front seal is not a DYI job unless you have the lift and tools to remove the tranny. I would take it to an indy and pin point the leak. If it is the pan. That is easy and good advice has been given about.
